Apple lost 4th Generation iPhone… wow.

It’s been an interesting month for Apple – the widely anticipated iPad, which sold phenomenally, but received very weird reviews, then rumors of widespread problems with the iPad’s Wi-Fi connection, and now: this.

Before I get into it, I have to say – there have been some rumors surrounding the iPad’s Wi-Fi connection with people speculating that perhaps there was a fatal flaw in the design placement of the Wi-Fi antenna (which, personally, I don’t buy) and that flaw is causing the connection issues.  When I first heard this, my reaction was “yeah, right – how could that happen – it’s APPLE??” – that was the same thought I had when I read that Apple engineer, Gray Powell, had not only left the Next Generation iPhone on a bar stool (I fear for that man) but that the iPhone was found and SOLD to Gizmodo for $5,000.  Gizmodo then proceeded, in true techie fashion, to dissect the phone. To read about all the new features, the 4th generation iPhone and Gizmodo’s “lost and found” story – go to their website. How does the phone feel, according to Gizmodo? : “Freaking amazing!”

This may not be such  big news for another company – device leaks happen and even happen intentionally as a marketing strategy – however, like I said above, it’s APPLE – the  notoriously secretive, Apple.  Apple who goes to great lengths, to maintain the highest secrecy and control when it comes their devices.  As, Paul Saffo, a “veteran silicon valley forecaster” stated in the New York Times article detailing the incident, : “For the sake of the person who dropped it, I hope this is a devious marketing scheme…but I think it is unlikely. There is no one else on the planet whose shoes I would less like to be in it at the moment.”.

According to some blogs, Mr. Jobs, himself, contacted Gizmodo asking for return of the device – however Gizmodo denies any “formal” communication.  You can read about Gizmodo’s contact with Apple regarding the return of the device here.
